Established in 1877 by Christine Barnes, the Barnesbeg tea estate embodies a century-long heritage, deriving its name from its pioneering planter, resulting in the moniker “Barnes-‘bagh,” translating to “Barnes’ garden.” Nestled approximately 15-17 kilometers from Darjeeling’s main town, Barnesbeg sits gracefully in the Lebong Valley, with the majestic Kanchenjunga as its northern backdrop. Encompassing 130 hectares of lush terrain, the estate’s tea bushes flourish at elevations ranging from 2000 to 3500 feet, benefiting from the moderate slopes and climate that characterize the region. Encircled by the resplendent Kanchenjunga, the garden’s vitality is further augmented by the meandering river Ranjeeth, ensuring optimal drainage.
