Description

Nestled in the picturesque Mirik valley of Darjeeling, Turzum Tea Estate embodies a rich history dating back to the 1860s. Established alongside the Sungma garden, Turzum endured an earthquake in 1934, leading to the amalgamation of the two gardens into a singular, thriving tea-producing entity. Following the merger, Turzum assumed operations, marking the beginning of its legacy.

Over the years, the garden transitioned through various management phases, from the Jhunjhunwala family’s stewardship in the late 1950s to its acquisition by the Jindals in the 1970s. Eventually, the Jayshree Group took the helm, effectively managing the estate alongside several other plantations in Darjeeling and Assam.

Situated in the tranquil Rungbong valley, a mere 25 kilometers from Darjeeling and close to the scenic town of Mirik, Turzum tea estate boasts elevations ranging from 1100 to 1700 meters above sea level. Renowned for its cultivation of exquisite teas of distinctive quality, Turzum derives its name from ‘Taru Zum,’ signifying a weekly market akin to the vibrant haat bazaars. With its mist-laden slopes and breathtaking vistas, Turzum continues to be a beacon of excellence in Darjeeling’s tea landscape, with its unique climate and terrain infusing its teas with unparalleled flavor and character.
